Product Offerings with Dual band, Tri-band and Multi Communications Solutions

In my last entry I spoke about what was on the horizon for WiMAX, in regards to our plans for enabling retail. This time, I’d like to share with you the possibility of communication solutions providing end users with flexibility for voice and data as they roam across operator networks.

While there are many communication protocols that have been developed over time, we are now seeing the evolution of WiMAX offerings with WiFi and 3G. A compelling arsenal of communication protocols for the road warrior on the go, always and anywhere connected with access to voice and data. How is WiMAX supporting these developments?

Basically, WiMAX solutions are being developed for platforms such as notebooks, netbooks, handsets, mobile internet devices, personal internet devices and USB stick adapters to name a few that can work with other communication protocols without interference. Already we’ve seen inter-working solutions that allow you to simultaneously switch from 3G to WiMAX or Wi-Fi to WiMAX and vice versa. It is now only a matter of time before we see these solutions offered to end users in various platforms with multiple communication protocols.

And within the WiMAX Forum in addition to the development of specifications for inter-working between Wi-Fi and WiMAX or 3G and WiMAX, all of the labs that we have accredited today have support for certifying multiple communication protocols. So effectively with the recent introduction of certified modules for dual band and tri-band to be available early next year, the mix of possibilities will expand in terms of communications for both voice and data. It also represents more flexibility for end users to access voice and data and for the operators to bundle  multiple services for their customers.  WiMAX is 4G.
